ククリス・ネルソンは、アメリカ合衆国コロラド州出身のアーティストです。
コロラド州大学彫刻学科を卒業して４年後、マサチューセッツ州へ制作の拠点を移した彼の作品はサイトスペシフィック・インスタレーションが中心となっていきます。光、影、動きや空間などをモチーフにした作品はとても瞑想的で、それはまるでささやきのような静けさを持っています。また同時にそれらは自然の本質が露呈されたようにも見えます。
彼はMassachusetts Cultural Councilの助成金及びバーモントスタジオセンターで数回の賞を受けており、教育者、ディレクター、キュレーターとしても活躍しています。彼の仕事とその活躍は、マサチューセッツ州を中心に、アメリカ全土そして京都、日本で波紋を呼んでいます。
この度ギャラリー揺での日本初個展は、ネルソンの新作を公開します。その静謐なささやきに、耳を傾けてみましょう。

Chris Nelson, an American artist, was raised in the outdoor environment of Colorado. Four years after receiving his BFA from Colorado State University, he moved to Massachusetts where his work went from sculptural to site-specific installations. Seven years later, Nelson still works in a direct and minimal way. Gravitating to using light, shadow, movement, and space, his work usually has a quiet, meditative quality. Often the essence of nature is expressed through a synthetic means while staying temporal.
Nelson has exhibited widely and received several awards including a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and two Full Fellowships to the Vermont Studio Center. Nelson also has worked as an educator, gallery director and curator.
This is his first solo exhibition in Japan. It is enjoyable to feel the whisperings of his new works.
